London Weekend Break

Walking tours of London

A number of companies offer guided walks around various parts of London, generally for between five and ten pounds per head, although some companies offer more extensive outings at up fifty pounds per person.

A walking tour of London has the advantage of getting you up close and ensuring that you do not waste too much time looking for the “big” sights. You also have a guide with expert knowledge and the addition of some anecdotes and usually a bit of humour.

Most operators offering these walks will have a list of different themed walking tours both during the day and at nighttime (often called gaslight tours or something similar).

These tours cover themes ranging from Jack the Ripper, Ghost tours and Victorian London to districts like Westminster and locations like the British Museum.

Tours generally start first thing in the morning or early afternoon, so pre-booking is a good idea if your stay in London is going to be a short one. (Continued below.)

What else

Walking tours always allow for the various age and fitness levels of the walkers, so walks are at a relaxed pace and are punctuated by lots of stops.

Most tours do not exceed two to three miles in length and tend to be on the flat.

Most tours also have big discounts or free places for younger children.
