London Weekend Break

Theatre tickets and Box offices

There is an ever changing itinerary of theatre shows taking place in London's West End and it is impossible to accurately list them. Big draws include the Andrew Lloyd Webber productions, the "We will rock you" Queen show", "the Lion King" and Abba's "Mama Mia", but there are many, many more.

In addition to the more commercial musicals, you also have the Opera, the London Ballet and numerous smaller theatrical productions.

You may also wish to try and obtain cinema tickets for a London premiere and see the stars walk the red carpet.

If you really want to make your London weekend break special, then taking in one of these London shows is an absolute must. The only questions are, which one? can you get hold of some tickets? and how much will those tickets cost?

The internet offers a selection of London's top online ticket box offices and show venues and this enables you to make theatre reservations quickly and easily on-line. For more details of London's theatres and shows look further down this page.

The locations of London theatres

London has a distinct "theatre land" where most of the long running and "block buster" shows can be found. This district centres around the areas of Drury Lane, Shaftesbury Avenue and The Strand and also includes some of the adjoining streets of the West End.

We have a separate page listing all of London’s theatres and theatrical houses (London Theatres), but here are some things to think about if you want to see a big London show.

In reality you can get hold of any ticket to any show at any time, but only if your budget has no limit.

In practical terms, most of the major events are sold out for several weeks and sometimes months in advance, so unless you want to pay a premium rate for your ticket you need to plan in advance – well in advance (and that is where the links on this page can help you).

If seeing a big West End show is the going to be the high point of your London Weekend, then this should be the event around which you organise and plan all the others. Do not make the mistake of selecting dates and booking a hotel only to discover that those all too precious tickets are unavailable. Find the show, get the tickets and THEN sort out your hotel, transport and other more mundane travelling details.

If you have never seen a West End musical, opera or theatrical production before, go for the big spectacle. The long running shows with large budgets and spectacular sets rarely fail to entertain and you are genuinely spoilt for choice. Take a look at this page London theatre district for more!

Comedy and jazz clubs

If theatres and big shows are not your cup of tea, but you would like a night out, then a comedy or jazz club might be more to your tastes. To see what is on offer, follow this link Comedy and jazz clubs.
