London Weekend Break

The London Docklands

The London Docklands are the most rapidly changing districts of London and encompass an area that extends from Tower Bridge to the Isle of Dogs.

Just a few short years ago this part of London was ruinous and derelict, but it is now a prosperous and thriving zone.

Although not genuinely on the tourist map, the Docklands area does have some historic value. The old docks themselves go back as far as the seventeenth century and were the scene of much activity, legal and illicit. Numerous buildings and streets also have chequered histories and associations with various activities and individuals of notoriety.

Today much of this area doubles as residential and office based development, but there are plenty of restaurant, cafes and bars and towns like Ramsgate that you can visit. The area also has a number of very old and famous public houses including, the Mayflower and the Prospect of Whitby.
