Constitution Arch

Given the fact that the United Kingdom has no written constitution, this is an oddly named, but very imposing monument.

In actual fact the original name of the arch was the Wellington Arch and it was built in 1828 at a different location to the one which it now occupies, namely Apsley House.

The bronze statue that is placed atop the arch is called the "Quadriga" and it is composed of four horses and the symbol of peace.

The arch is on the route of the cavalry for the "changing of the guard" and they pass beneath it daily.

Beware of cyclists who pass by and under this arch at great speed with little consideration for tourists or anyone else for that matter.
